Reed Switch Development was founded in May of 1967 by John S. Hammon and Harold C. Dahlin. Founded in Connecticut, Reed Switch Development started off with a mission to provide the best standard reed switch and reed switch actuator products that they could to their customers. On top of this, Reed Switch Development helped spur industry development by developing new product lines and was on of the first in the industry to provide standardized packaged reed switch sensors. After developing new technologies for the company, Dahlin applied his experience as a mechanical engineer to develop several patents in his lifetime. One patent that was particularly ingenious, was for a magnetically actuated reed switch in which the magnetic actuating element is part of the switch assembly itself. Dahlin developed this technology in order to provide enhanced usage of the switch in limit switch and high speed precision switching arrangements.

In the late 80s, Reed Switch Development monved to Racine, Wisconsin and in the early 90s broke into the international market by developing their first account in Seoul, South Korea. This movement into the South Korean market allowed Reed Switch Development to being specializing in highly custom applications that are designed to meet the exacting standards of customers around the globe. Taking it one step further, in 2001 Reed Switch Development pioneered the total solution package for their customers. This package included everything from development, sourcing, and kanban which included integrating switch design into the customer’s devices, bringing a level of personalization that only Reed Switch Development could offer.
